Camp might be the perfect place for Gen Alpha to be and Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) just got data to back that up. Here at Camp Victory we have always believed camp is the best place for kids to be in the summer. It’s why our full-time staff have devoted their careers to it, why our summer staff devote an entire summer to it, and why our volunteers devote their whole lives to it. So we got pretty excited when FYI interviewed a population of Gen Alpha students to discover that even kids think camp is the best place for them – they just might not know it yet.
FYI did a study on Gen Alpha talking to them about some things that affect and matter to them. One of the top responses to that survey is that most youth are open to faith. Among teens with no religious affiliation, 41% say they are open to faith, which makes summer camp the best environment for them to encounter Jesus. We can all agree that being outdoors is good for students, and most of them don’t get enough of it. Camp combines that need with a spiritual need.
Another interesting thing that Gen Alpha noted is they are drawn to adults who are trustworthy. What makes an adult trustworthy to a Gen Alpha kid? Not being judgemental. Canvas, one of our overnight counselors in 2025, shared this story with us. “I had a cabin one week who a lot of them didn’t have positive adult role models in their lives and they shared that with us…And getting to throughout the week see them interactive with both the guy and the girl staff and see first of all the relationships between the staff and how strong and positive and God-centered those relationships were…seeing how they were able to interact with that staff and…just have that example of what Christ in a community of people can do.”
There is an endless list of opportunities for you kids this summer, but we believe, now more than ever, that summer camp is the right place for them. Gen Alpha is ready to hear the gospel, learn about God, and trust and treasure Jesus Christ.
